Quizzing the Quiz Master

In this blog we take the opportunity to quiz Sunnybank's very own Quiz Master and Choices Officer, Alex.

How long have you been Sunnybank's Quiz Master?

I have been Sunnybank’s Quiz master since the Spring of 2020. The quiz has undergone changes since that time, including upping the total number of questions from 36 to 40 (ten questions in four rounds) and DJ Jon doing a music round.

What's the thing you enjoy most about being a Quiz Master?

Probably the variety of questions and rounds there are. There are a total of 40 questions in the quiz and it is nice to get creative with the rounds.

What's the most challenging thing about being a Quiz Master?

I love a challenge and have never been one to run from one. Probably the most challenging thing is thinking up new rounds and questions. With 40 questions to play with, you need to be creative and not have the same questions in the different quizzes each week. That said, as challenging as that can be at times, it is also a great deal of fun.

What tips would you give to someone who would like to create their own quiz?

If one wants to create their own quiz, I would advise them to make the rounds as easy as possible. While it can be fun to have some challenging questions in the rounds, I have found that quizzes are more enjoyable when people are scoring around 70%-80% minimum on the quiz rounds – all the way up to 90%-100%. The second piece of advice I would give is to make sure that people are familiar with the topics, such as food. So a good food question could be something along the lines of:

What country does pasta come from?

a) Korea?

b) India?

c) Italy

What's the most difficult question you've ever asked in one of your quizzes?

That’s a hard one. That said, as everyone who knows me, I am a big music fan and love Elvis Presley. So, in celebration of the film coming out, which came out in late June, I decided to do a round on the legend.

What would you say to someone who is interested in coming along?

It's a great deal of fun and a good way to round off the working week.

I hope you can join us - we meet every Friday evening at 7pm on Zoom.
